OUR VALUES
At The Makers & Shakers, we’re dedicated to championing the values of the handmade movement. We believe in the importance of locally produced, high-quality goods that are made with care and attention to detail. Our events showcase genuine makers, crafters, and creators who are dedicated to their craft, and we are proud to play our part in creating a shift away from the consumption of mass-produced products. We believe in preserving traditional skills and crafts, supporting local artisans and small businesses, and contributing to a sustainable future through conscious consumption.
AUSTRALIAN MADE
At The Makers and Shakers Market, we proudly support Australian makers, which is why we are accredited by the Australian Made Campaign. We believe that local micro-manufacturing is a powerful path toward sustainability (both environmental and economic) by keeping “maker miles” low.
As public support for locally made products continues to surge, we will continue to make it easy for visitors to support small businesses and artisans. The Makers and Shakers Market offers thoughtfully curated lineups of high-quality makers, all of whom produce their goods in Australia. Our curation process ensures that visitors can shop with confidence, knowing that they are supporting creatives and the local economy while enjoying the beauty and value of handmade products.
MEET THE TEAM
Over the last decade, Emma Morris and Lee Glezos have organised retail-based events across Australia that are tailored around ethical consumption. Round She Goes was established in 2008 and is Australia’s pioneering and most popular preloved and vintage fashion market. The Makers & Shakers was established in 2015, and was followed by The Slow Fashion Market in 2018.
MEET EMMA
Emma has a background in public relations, having managed publicity for an award winning Australian book publisher. Over the course of several years, Emma designed and managed media campaigns (tv, radio, print and online) for a diverse range of authors, including former Prime Ministers, senior federal politicians, award winning international journalists, and many more. In 2008, she started Round She Goes Fashion Market as a side-hustle, which grew in size and popularity, and eventually graduated into her main hustle, and set the foundation for the creation of The Makers & Shakers Market in 2015, and the Slow Fashion Market in 2018.
MEET LEE
Lee’s career began as a maker, carving candles at The Candlemakers Workshop located in the former Potters Cottage in Warrandyte, Melbourne. He then shifted into academia, focusing on ethical consumption and social movements. His PhD thesis was the first significant exploration of how the Australian organic food market was established. Lee is a published academic and previously held the title of Adjunct Associate Professor at Swinburne University’s School of Business, Law, and Entrepreneurship.
In 2015, Lee co-founded The Makers and Shakers Market. In 2018, he served as the inaugural Director of The Makers and Shakers Conference, a groundbreaking event that discussed business strategies for independent makers of handmade products. The conference, which took place at The Edge at Fed Square, was attended by 200 creative businesses.
